1C opened the magic book today and released Haimrik – the monochrome action adventure, full of warriors, wizards, dragons, ogres, a man-eating lioness and a couple more odd characters. Haimrik uses words as the core of its gameplay mechanics, where they not only present the narrative, but they can also become real objects for the young scribe Haimrik, the game’s main character.
The game is now available for purchase for Windows PC via SteamTM and other digital stores, and on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One via digital download.
The conspicuous black humor puts a red mark in the otherwise monochromatic, sepia toned world of Haimrik, as pools of blood and piles of gore fill the screen on occasions. The magic book at Haimrik’s disposal is a powerful weapon and although he might be using it wisely, his enemies should definitely stand out of his way, as he searches for his lost mother throughout the fairytale medieval realm that is his home. Being a walking larder for his “friend”, lioness Masamba, he often finds himself in the role of the Word Warrior, solving puzzles and fending off adversaries just by using the words he comes across – literally.
Awards for Haimrik – Best Art Award and Innovation Award finalist at BIG Festival 2018; official selection at IndieCade Europe; nomination for the Gamer’s Voice at the SXSW; nomination for Indie Awards at MomoCon in Atlanta!
